There’s Nothing Wrong With Your School That 20 New Members Won’t Fix
There’s Nothing Wrong With Your School That 20 New Members Won’t Fix
Inspired by Grand Master William Clark’s October 7, 2026 Staff Meeting
Every martial arts school has challenges.
Revenue may be down.
Classes may feel smaller.
Staff may be frustrated.
Retention may feel harder.
But one of the fastest ways to improve the health of the school is still the same:
Enroll more people.
Grand Master Clark’s target remains clear: 20 new members per month.
Do Not Depend on One Recruiting Source
The strongest schools do not rely on one campaign, one event, or one advertising channel.
They work several recruiting systems at the same time:
- Paid marketing.
- Referrals.
- Community outreach.
- School visibility.
- Special events.
- Old leads and former students.
That matters because one source may slow down while another starts producing.
New Members Feed the Entire School
Every new member creates future opportunity.
They may later become:
- Advanced students.
- Leaders.
- Coaches.
- Competitors.
- Black Belts.
- Long-term members.
- Future instructors.
That means recruiting is not simply about replacing people who leave.
It is the beginning of the entire student journey.
Do not wait until enrollment is low to start recruiting.
Build multiple recruiting systems.
Work them consistently.
Track the results.
Because sometimes the fastest way to strengthen the school is simply to put more people on the mat.
